Camiel Jansen is a Dutch composer with a background in both jazz and classical music. He studied at prestigious institutions such as Codarts in Rotterdam, the Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen, and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Jansen’s work is deeply rooted in storytelling, and each composition begins with a specific theme or story. His body of work includes a reflection on the benefits scandal (Het Toeslagenschandaal, 2022), a piece about humanity’s future journey to Mars (MARS:, 2021), and a composition that explores the perspective of a small mouse in a big world (Small World, 2022), which was presented alongside an animated film. Another significant composition, *Anger to Anguish* (2023), addresses the theme of climate change.

Jansen has received several awards, including the 2022 Keep an Eye Production Award, the 2023 Rogier van Otterloo Award, and multiple film awards for the music of *Small World*. Jansen’s compositions have been performed throughout Europe—in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, and China—and have received critical acclaim, particularly the premiere of MARS:.

In addition to composing, Jansen is an active performer and a member of Ensemble Ikarai. In 2019, the ensemble gained international recognition when it was selected to represent the Netherlands at the 12 Points Festival.
Jansen’s major compositional project for 2024 includes a contemporary oratorio based on the book *De Fundamenten* by Ramsey Nasr. This ambitious work was commissioned by NTR Zaterdagmatinee and will be premiered by the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and five soloists, conducted by Stéphane Denève.

Through his works, Jansen continues to shed light on complex social and philosophical themes and creates music that not only appeals to the emotions but also addresses pressing global issues.
